San Andreas trumps UK Box Office figures

In just one week, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has grossed more money in UK sales than the biggest opening weekend figures for a film in the UK. The game, according to estimated figures from ChartTrack, has sold over 677,000 copies on its first two days on sale in the UK bringing in an estimated sales total of £24million.
ChartTrack has based there opening weekend figures on the average price of the game being £35.45, this combined with sales figures from over 6500 stores across the land means that money for money it has beaten Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban in the opening weekend stakes. This is the first time that this has happened and the most copies a game has sold in an opening weekend.
The games industry has slowly but surely gained ground on the film industry across the globe, only last month, Microsoft announced that Halo 2, due to be launched in the next couple of weeks has sold over 1.5 million copies in America on Pre-order and with other titles like Half-Life 2 also available in the coming weeks it seems that Video Games will no longer be just for geeks.
We will be posting a review of GTA: San Andreas on Friday
