D-Link today announced the launch of its most powerful wireless home network router - the Wireless N Gigabit Router (DIR-655).

The new router, which works on the yet to be approved draft 802.11N wireless protocol and according to D-Link, is the first on the market that has earned the right to display Microsoft's Works with Windows Vista logo.

The D-Link Wireless N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) complies with the new features of Windows Vista, including increased stability and mobility, enhanced security, improved graphics, greater support for file sharing, data management, multimedia streaming in a home or small office environment, and gaming.

The D-Link DIR-655 router also is the first to offer both 4-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) ports, an integrated wireless security wizard, Windows Connect Now (WCN) support, removable antennas for flexible installation and a wall-mount option.

The new 802.11n speed offers faster connectivity than previous b and g varieties currently available, however the Wi-Fi alliance has yet to approve the new speed. It is expected to do so later in the year.

The Vista approved Gigabit Router has a recommended retail price of £129.99 exclusive of VAT and will be available in the UK from January 2007.
