Japanese PS3 gamers get e-money update

IC-card e-cash now accepted

It might still be 2 months before the PS3 arrives in the UK, but Japanese gamers got an update to the consoles firmware today to allow them to use certain e-money currencies.

The new firmware - firmware 1.5 was released by Sony Entertainment Japan to also fix a number of security glitches that have been found, however the main reason for the upgrade has been to include support to accept the IC-card e-cash for online shopping.

Although as prevalent as credit cards in the west, the IC-card is mainly only used in the Asia.

Still, as Sony keeps on telling us here in the UK, the more bugs that are found before its UK launch the less problems UK gamers are going to experience.
