MacWorld 2007: Apple boasts 2 billion music downloads

Sales going well

9 January 2007 17:28 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Apple has squashed rumours that its iTunes music store is flagging in sales with the announcement that it has sold over 2 billion songs since its launch.

Steve Jobs, who was in high spirits and happy to trash Microsoft wherever possible, said that the last billion songs had sold in the last 10 months.

The results means that, apart from selling 5 million tracks a day, the iTunes store now sells more than Amazon.

The company has also announced that it is adding Paramount movies to its film download offering.

The news means that US customers will be able to download films like Hunt for the Red October as well as the Star Trek series.
