CES 2007: Nokia launches 6131 NFC, N76, and N93i

NFC provides tap and go payment and ticketing

In addition to the N800 Internet Tablet, Nokia also launched new mobile phone models and Bluetooth headsets.

The 6131 NFC phone is the first to feature Near Field Communications, which supports data transfer and payment and ticketing with a tap of the device on to a transmitter or receiver.

“At CES there are dozens of potential use cases for the Nokia 6131 NFC phone. Instead of carrying a badge for entry, a tap of my phone could authorise my admittance to the exhibition, access to product information could be achieved by touching my phone on a product display, making carrying brochures around the show floor obsolete, and instead of heading to the ATM machine on a daily basis, coffee, sodas, and hot dogs could be purchased using an NFC-enabled phone”, expained Juha Kokkonen, director of Mobile Experiences for Nokia's Mobile Phones business.

Other applications include picking up business card information, or downloading an audio track after touching an NFC-enabled poster or info kiosk.

The 6131 NFC phone also features a music player, microSD card slot, FM stero radio, 1.3Mp camera, and Bluetooth. It's expected to be released for around $340.

In addition, Nokia also launched the slim and trim N76 to its multimedia mobile range. It promises both style and substance, with music player control on the outside of the flip phone, a 3.5mm headphone jack, support for Windows Media DRM, a 2.4-inch LCD display, 2MP camera, and preloaded Nokia Web Browser and Mobile Search.

The N76 will be available in the first quarter of 2007 for around 390 euros.

And finally, Nokia has tweaked the N93 and created the N93i, which is being marketed for its ability to capture DVD-like quality video.

The N93i includes Vox software on it to upload your video and images directly to your Vox blog. The mobile is bundled with Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 for editing when you get home, as well.

Features of the N93i include a video-out jack, WLAN, 3G, EDGE, GSM, MP3 player, FM radio, mobile TV, MPEG4 VGA video capture, 3.2MP still camera, 3x optical zoom, and bundled 1GB miniSD card. It will be on sale during the first quarter for around 600 euros.
