CES 2007: Philips launch wireless HDMI

HD without cables

7 January 2007 20:34 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Philips has announced a new device which could help banish the cables from around your television with the announcement that it will launch a device that will send a HD signal from any device to your television.

Wireless HDMI is an in-room solution that can transfer a 1080p signal without any signal loss.

Philips say the signal is never compressed and retains all the attributes as if it were transmitted through a standard HDMI cable.

According to Philips the company is offering the technology as an open standard and does plan to offer single and multiple socket options for users wanting to transmit the signal from more than one device. Philips also confirmed that it will support the new HDMI 1.3 standard the is starting to be released in products from a number of different manufactures.

By operating in the ultra wideband (UWB) range, the wireless cable experiences no interference from traditional devices. It functions free from obstruction of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cordless phones, microwaves and cell phones.

Additionally, the wireless HDMI can be placed anywhere within a 25 foot range – in an entertainment center, in a closet, on the other side of the room – without signal loss or degradation.

The revolutionary wireless HDMI cable will be available in May with a suggested retail price of $299.99.
