Toshiba launches small portable hard drive range

Comes with backup software

Toshiba has unveiled a new line of portable hard drive storage designed to provide easy back up on the go.

The new and imaginatively-named USB2.0 Portable External Hard Drive line incorporates Toshiba's 2.5-inch HDDs, and is bundled with NTI Shadow backup software.

The device doesn't have its own power switch, but is powered through the USB and is therefore turned on and off with the computer.

NTI Shadow software, meanwhile, offers a backup solution that monitors files and automatically saves changes to the external harddrive. There's no need to open or run software independently, as the program runs in the background.

With a black aluminium housing, the hard drive measures 5.6-inches long by 3.5-inches wide and less than 1-inch tall. It also incorporates shock mounting and ventilation system to protect data on the go.

The hard drives will be on sale in the US in 100GB, 120GB, and 160GB capacities starting at $140.
