Fujifilm has released three new compact cameras just in time for CES next week. Two are new additions to the company's A-series of entry-level cameras; the third is the fourth Fujifilm model with Face Detection technology.
The FinePix F40fd comes with 8.3 megapixels of resolution, 3x optical zoom lens, and enough battery juice for 300 shots.
Astonishingly, the sensitivity can be boosted all the way to ISO 2000 at full resolution. The company promises that the special Super CCD HR VI's octagonal shape means that it can produce images at high ISOs with reduced film noise; the processor's double noise reduction also helps to deliver less grainy images.
The F40fd also boasts a dual memory card slot to accept both the tiny xD Picture Cards and SD cards.
Size-wise, the camera measures just 23.3mm deep, making it pocketable. The newly redesigned body comes in silver, gunmetal, and blue, and on the back is a 2.5-inch LCD screen.
Other changes from the F30fd include a new mode dial, improved button layout, and helpful user interface.
For those not familiar with Fujifilm's Face Detection, it works by triangulating eyes and mouth to focus on faces in the frame, even in low light or off-centre positions.
Other features include an Intelligent Flash system that fixes the problem of washed out faces in photos taken with flash, and 14 scene modes.
Available from March, pricing to be announced closer to the release date. Cameras, Compact cameras, 8 megapixels, Fujifilm, Awards
