New adidas TechFit apparel to improve sporting performance

Perform stronger, longer and faster than ever

Chelsea and Liverpool Football Clubs have both been boosted by the arrival of TechFit, a new range of apparel from adidas which is set to give the players the competitive edge.

Come the launch - due for mid-January 2007 - both teams are set to get the same treatment as the British 4 x 100m gold medal winners, who first road tested the product during development at the Athens Olympic Games 2004.

TechFit is a multi-sport garment and is scientifically proven to enhance sporting performance, giving more strength, power and endurance. The technology supports key muscle groups and stores elastic energy to deliver explosive performance throughout athletic movement.

The boffins at adidas claim that the power of TechFit apparel can enable an athlete who could sprint 100 metres in 10 seconds to run the same distance almost a metre quicker. Pocket-lint cannot verify these facts, but adidas go on to claim it can add an average of 5.3% total body power output, increase maximum jump height by 4%, and accelerate faster sprint times (1.1%).

In line with conventional wisdom, the compression of TechFit improves metabolic efficiency by lowering the oxygen level the body requires to perform by 1.3% offering a longer sustained performance.

Three years in development, TechFit will be worn by top adidas sports stars including Steven Gerrard, Marlon Devonish, James Cracknell, Alastair Cook and Charlie Hodgson.

TechFit was most recently worn by the All Blacks against England in the Investec Challenge in November 2007 and previously worn by athletes at the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games and by world class sprinter Jeremy Wariner.
