Nintendo has announced that it's handheld console has sold over seven million consoles sold across Europe and six Nintendo DS games breaking the one million sales mark with ease.

High selling games include Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training: How old is your brain? Animal Crossing: Wild World, and puppy phenomenon Nintendogs which has sold over 4 million copies in Europe suggesting that 2 in 3 owners own the game.

Nintendo’s gaming titles have seen similar success with the portly plumber, Mario, enjoying three huge hits with New Super Mario Bros., and Super Mario 64 both breaking the one million sales mark and Mario Kart DS selling over 1.5 million copies.

Interestingly Nintendo says that 44% of Nintendo DS owners are female suggesting that the console is reaching beyond the core male gamer.

The news comes on the back of word that stock for the Nintendo Wii is starting to dry up in the US following an abundance of stock for launch on 19 November.
