Nokia’s Music Recommenders website, first announced on 26 September has been made live today.

The site was designed for use with Nokia’s then-new music and multimedia mobiles. It brings together new music across twelve genres from independent record stores that include Fat Beats in New York, Pure Groove in London, and Hard Wax in Berlin. Experts will bring together music from their genres, which will then create playlists for subscribers who can listen to sample clips and buy the tracks they like through their mobiles and computers.

To download tracks will cost £0.89, which is ten pence more than it costs to buy songs from Apple’s iTunes.

David Bowie is the headline celebrity for the new venture, and will be contributing through features and podcasts each month, as well as appearing in a short film shot by Wim Wenders.

"Waking up to a new sound or new band is something that makes my day just that bit more exciting”, said David Bowie.

“Unfortunately, so much music goes unheard, especially things that don’t bow to the mainstream. Music Recommenders help navigate the undiscovered music that is out there.”
