Google buys wiki company JotSpot

Similar application to Writely and Spreadsheets

Google has acquired online wiki company JotSpot in an attempt to expand even further into the online document collaboration market.

The announcement was made on the Google Blog by co-founder Joe Kraus, who explains that the site was set up to allow non-HTML conversant internet users to edit and share documents. He writes: “As we built the business over the past three years, Google consistently attracted our attention. We watched them acquire Writely, and launch Google Groups, Google Spreadsheets, and Google Apps for Your Domain".

“It was pretty apparent that Google shared our vision for how groups of people can create, manage and share information online.”

He goes on to say that joining Google offers them many great resources.

JotSpot is not accepting new users at the moment while it migrates to Google’s software architecture. The site offered both a free online utility for consumers, as well as subscription plan for small business owners.
