For Sale: One golf buggy, good condition, one former world-leader owner. £70,000 ono.

Well that could be the ad after the Kremlin announced today that it is auctioning off the golf buggies used by visiting G8 heads of state in July. The eight carts used for nipping between meetings at the summit held in St Petersburg are expected to fetch more than 3.5 million roubles each.

"We carried out a market study and we consider there's demand", said Viktor Khrekov, from the Kremlin's property office.

The white mini-cars are powered by a quiet electric motor and are capable of 50kph. The lucky owners will be able to sit behind the same wheel held by the leader of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia or the US.

Russia was hosting the powerful G8 club for the first time and the golf carts were one of many touches aimed at putting on a good show.

Proceeds from the auction will go toward covering some of the expenses of hosting the summit.
