Microsoft profits boosted by sale of 6 million Xbox 360s

4 million Xbox live members also helped

Microsoft has announced that its Entertainment and Devices Division revenue has grown by a massive 70% thanks mainly to the success of the Xbox 360, software, peripherals, and Xbox Live.

According to Microsoft it has shifted over 6 million consoles worldwide since the consoles launch last year.

The software giant also said that it now has over four million member for its while Xbox Live.

“As we look to the upcoming releases of Windows Vista, the 2007 Microsoft Office system and Exchange Server 2007, we are excited about these products and believe they will deliver unprecedented levels of business value to our customers”, said Kevin Turner, chief operating officer at Microsoft.

Microsoft's first quarter revenue was $10.81 billion in total for the period ending September 30, 2006, an 11% increase over the same quarter of the prior year.
