Scotland in the autumn ... a beautiful place to visit, and a great place for a seasonal drive. The nation’s top ten autumnal drives are named today, with Scotland claiming four of the top positions. The Aberfeldy-Loch Tay-Glen Lyon stretch and Crief to Strathearn in Perthshire, Dukes Pass in the Trossachs, and Cannich to Glen Affric in the Highlands all made the list but it was the Forest of Dean in the Wye Valley that topped the overall UK list.
The 15-mile stretch of the A466 scored a narrow victory as a result of its rolling tree-covered hillsides, its winding riverside route and the mystical Tintern Abbey. Edged into a close second, with its spectacular "Rigg and Dale" landscape is the tour through the Dalby Forest inside the North York Moors National Park. The network of forest roads, including a nine-mile stretch up to a northerly plateau, is a must for adventure seekers.
Roads in South Wales, Gloucestershire, Cumbria and County Durham completed the list.
Car maker Mini polled hundreds of UK motorists to come up with the routes, based on a Forestry Commission shortlist. In total, Britain has a road network some 241,000 miles long. Car And GPS, Cars, Mini, Scotland
