With 2013 in full-swing, a new set of rumours claims specs and release dates for Apple's next-generation iPad Mini and iPhone, giving us an indication of where the company is heading for the year.

Jeremy Horwitz of iLounge reports the second-generation iPad mini is codenamed “J85” and is set for an October release. It will be the first iPad mini to feature a Retina display, but will feel close to the first-generation iPad mini, according to the report.

Next, Horwitz claims the iPhone 5S has not yet entered mass production, but has a target release date of July. Interestingly, it is said to feature a 13-megapixel Sony rear-camera sensor - better than the iPhone 5’s 8-megapixel. No other specs have been detailed.

If the report is to believed, a Retina display on the iPad mini would be a step-up, as some customers and early reviewers missed the larger amount of pixels that accompanies the full-sized iPad.

Some customers say they’re holding out for a Retina iPad mini -- others don’t mind. An October release date does make sense, as the first-gen hit in early November.

In an interesting move if true, a July release date for the iPhone 5S would put the handset's release back t mid-Summer for the first time since the iPhone 4S. Reports have already noted that we shouldn’t expect any major changes with the iPhone 5S, rather it will be a simple spec jump. A 13-megapixel camera sensor sounds very compelling, adding to the iPhone line’s already solid camera.

Of course rumours are rumours, especially with Apple, but it’s worth noting that Horwitz has been right in the past.

He was one of the first to correctly peg the iPhone 5 as having a smaller dock connector and provided some of the first details for the third-generation iPad. There have been a couple of wrong reports so far, including that the iPad would feature NFC, but his track record is relatively good.

Finally, Horwitz has provided scant details on the fifth-generation iPad. It is said to be code named J72 and be slated for an October release as well -- around the same time frame as the release of the fourth-generation iPad.

Many details for the next iPhone are still up in the air, as several reports have claimed different. One report said Apple would also be launching a cheaper iPhone built from plastic for customers on a budget, while another report said Apple was set to go larger than 4-inches.

We’ll keep you posted.
