Blu-ray fan Samsung adds HD-DVD to M55 notebook

And we thought your heart was with Blu-ray

Is Samsung wavering on their staunch stand in the Blu-ray supporters camp? It seems they’re hedging their bets.

Samsung has added an HD-DVD player (and possibly recorder) on their M55 notebook computers, according to blog Engadget HD. Advertised as the “world’s thinnest and lightest 17-inch widescreen” notebook at 34.4mm thick, it seems its big new boast will be its HD-DVD action.

Other specifications on the M55 include a 256MB Nvidia GeForce 7600 Go graphics card, 120GB hard drive, 802.11 a/b/g wireless connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0, inputs and outputs galore, including HDMI, and powered by an Intel T2500 Core Duo processor.

So far, it’s not up on the company’s website nor formally announced, but Engadget is guessing the price will be about €3000.

Samsung isn’t the first to waver on its Blu-ray support; Acer and LG have also added HD-DVD to some devices.

The news comes just days after Samsung launched its standalone Blu-ray player in the UK. The player, which will come with SWAT and Legends of Jazz, will cost £1000 when it becomes available in October.
