So when will the already-legendary Apple iPhone make its appearance on the world’s stage?

Rumour has it that the music playing mobile will be unveiled in March of 2007 in a variety of colours. Analysts at PiperJaffray reckon that Apple has the design down pat and may even be manufacturing it already, but is waiting for the perfect time to release it.

When will that time be? Once the hype around music and multimedia mobiles reaches just the right pitch, of course. Apple is letting other company’s marketing and PR do the dirty work for them.

Apple rumour blog Think Secret has even caught wind of a deal that Apple has struck with US mobile service provider Cingular to give them exclusive rights to sell the iPhone for the first six months of its release. Apple is also said to be in talks with providers in other parts of the world; as O2 had the exclusive for the ROKR in Europe, it may have first dibs on the iPhone as well.

The same site says that the specs on the mobile include a 2.2-inch display and a 3MP camera.
