Buy your stamps online and print them out yourself

Royal Mail unveils new service

19 September 2006 17:05 GMT / By Amber Maitland

The Royal Mail today is making it easier for people to buy stamps and send their letters.

Now customers can buy stamps via the internet to print on to labels and envelopes. The postage includes first-class, second-class, recorded, special and international deliveries, but recorded and special delivery parcels still have to be taken to the Post Office for sending.

The stamp has been replaced by a unique barcode which are time-stamped to be used by a certain time.

The service is available 24 hours a day, and postage can be purchased with credit or debit cards.

The Royal Mail expects the service to be especially popular for people who sell goods via eBay or other internet outlets. It’s hoped that the steady increase of broadband service will encourage people to use the service, and that it will ease long queues at the Post Office.

You can buy postage from the Royal Mail's website.
