Altec Lansing, known in the consumer audio world for its iPod speakers, is now offering high-end speakers that are compatible with playback from computers as well as other devices.

The FX4021 and FX 5051 are designed around isobaric subwoofers that are based on dual-bass driver design usually used for automotive speakers. Both systems also feature two-way satellites with active 40mm midrange drivers and 18mm tweeters.

The FX4021’s isobaric subwoofer users dual 5.25-inch woofers, while the FX5051 can boast dual 6.5-inch woofers. Both systems come with a wireless remote control and can be wall-mounted or used on stands.

The FX5051, unlike the FX 4021, also offers USB 5.1 connectivity with Windows PCs for 5.1 Surround Sound; the system can also be used with Mac computers, but Macs don’t support 5.1 USB Surround Sound, according to Altec Lansing.

Look out for both systems to be available in the Autumn.
