BAFTA throws spotlight on games with new awards

Loco Roco and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter both garner eight nominations

The British Academy of Film and Television has extended their awards this year to recognise outstanding performance in games in the new British Academy Video Games Awards.

According to a statement, “The awards ceremony will reward the individuals behind the very best in artistic, creative and technical innovation for video games", and will take place at the historic Roundhouse on 5 October, hosted by popular radio and TV personality Vernon Kay.

The joint-highest nominee is Loco Roco, a PSP game with rolling and bouncing jelly-creatures; also with eight nominations is the latest from the Tom Clancy franchise – Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.

With six nominations, We Love Katamari has proven popular, while Guitar Hero received five nominations.

Also with five nominations is Tomb Raider: Legend, while the reworking of an old theme proved popular, as Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy received four nominations.
