Kef, the makers of high-end speaker systems, has announced details on its Fivetwo series, which provides claims to provide five audio channels from two speakers.

The space-saving idea means that the front pair of speakers provide 5.1 surround sound for the home cinema. Two versions are available: a seven driver stand or wall mount Model 7, or an eleven driver floor standing Model 11.

The idea is that the flat panels behind the main speakers drivers act as rear-effects speakers, while the front-facing Uni-Q drivers creat left, centre, and right speakers. Kef promises that they are able to deliver pin-sharp dialogue and great sound effects.

Although no release date has been fixed yet, the system will be available in matte silver and high-gloss black, and comes supplied with cables. Such sophistication will cost you; Model 7 will be on sale for around £600 per pair; Model 11, £1100 per pair.
