Today’s website of the day is nationwidemercurys.com the official website for one of the most eagerly awaited awards in the music business.

At the Grosvenor Hotel in London’s Mayfair tonight, the winner of the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize will be announced. One of the biggest events in the musical calendar, this prize, unlike some others, is still taken very seriously by the artists, the fans and the recording industry as a whole. The only thing that matters in this competition is the music. Judges aren’t swayed by media hype or glitzy marketing – if it ain’t any good, it ain’t getting in.

Twelve albums by critically acclaimed UK acts are shortlisted and hotly tipped to take this year’s honours are the Arctic Monkeys.

But then this award, more often than not in recent years, likes to throw up the occasional surprise.
