Belkin's N1 wireless router launched in the US

Belkin’s chic new N1 wireless router that Pocket-lint first reported about in early May has finally got a release date and pricing for the UK market.

The black box will be available this month across the UK, with a starting price of £130 for the Router alone, while the Modem Router will cost £150. The Notebook Adapter will retail for around £70; the Desktop Adaptor, £80.

The N1 Wireless promises to let users run multiple applications from one router without any connection drop, thanks to increased speeds of up to 300Mbps.

Belkin’s router is fully compliant, to the letter, with the current IEEE 802.11n draft. The full technical specifications for 802.11n isn’t expected to be ratified by the IEEE until some time in 2008.

The company is candid about the fact that in cannot guarantee upgradability to the final specifications, nor to all other final N products from other vendors. However, Belkin believes that because the EWC, which is made up of Intel, Atheros, Marvell, and Broadcom, is pushing for compatibility between all chipsets, that they will be.

The Router is, however, backwards compatible with b and g standards, and works with Macs.

The device is a departure from boring router grey, and comes with a piano-black finish; at the front, the status lights have been turned into icons that indicate whether all connections are working or not.
