IFA 2006: Lite-On announces players for Blu-ray and HD-DVD

Manufacturer hedges its bets

4 September 2006 12:48 GMT / By Amber Maitland

Lite-On has officially declared its intention to sit on the fence during the Blu-ray and HD-DVD war by announcing players for both formats.

The first to be released in early 2007 will be the BDP-X1 for Blu-ray playback, while the HDP-Z1 will be launched a bit later.

Both are on show at IFA in Berlin as pre-production samples.

The players will be the first High Definition devices from Lite-On; the company also plans to release Blu-ray triple writer drives, both internal and external.
