SanDisk is hoping to create the same accessories market for its Sansa range of MP3 players with the announcement that its is signed seven third-party companies to start making accessories. The companies, which include Griffin, Altec Lansing, DLO and Macally, will offer everything from speaker docks to travel cases to headphones and all be branded with a "Made for sansa" logo in a virtually identical way to Apple's "Made for iPod" branding programme.
"With each new addition of the line of licensed Sansa accessories, we are creating a more complete ecosystem for enhancing the user experience", the company's director of consumer marketing said in a statement.
Apple's "Made for iPod" scheme was created to let consumers know which products where specifically designed to work with the iconic player. In return for being able to use the logo, Apple helps with devlopment and testing of the product as well as taking a royalty cut from the sale of each device.
It is expected that the licensing agreement announced today by SanDisk will work in the same way.
SanDisk has said that the new products would be available in time for Christmas. Last month the company increased the size of its e200 range to include an 8GB MP3 player. Audio, MP3 players, SanDisk, IFA2006
