IFA 2006: Samsung unveils latest do-all compact camera the SDC-MS61

It shoots, records audio, plays MP3s and functions as a webcam

Instead of waiting for the upcoming photography trade show coming up at the end of the month, Samsung launched its latest compact, the SDC-MS61 at IFA.

The photography technology is nothing special on this camera, but the audio capability and webcam functions are, and combined with its chic black look, the camera is bound to win over many in the run up to Christmas.

Samsung haven’t tried pixel-cramming with this latest model, choosing instead to load it with a 6MP sensor with the ability to boost the ISO up to 1600.

On the rear is a generous 3.0-inch LCD screen with a 16:9 aspect ration, so that MPEG4 videos can be shot widescreen.

The SDC-MS61 captures video at 30fps, has a 3x optical zoom, stores, records, and plays back MP3 files, and functions as a live-view webcam when connected to a PC.

There’s no word yet on pricing or availability in the UK, but look out for announcements in the coming weeks.
