Only slightly bigger than the DVD itself

Plextor has announced what it is claiming is the world's smallest DVD writer for those who are conscious of space but don't want the drive in your laptop.

The slimline clamshell chassis drive measures 137.1mm wide, 143.1mm deep and 15.9mm high, weighs just 250g and is USB2.0 bus-powered so there's no external power supply either.

The PX-608CU offers double layer DVD+/- writing, multi-format DVD+/-/RAM capability and USB2.0 data transfer.

It is capable of the following DVD speeds: 4x DVD+/-R DL; 8x DVD+/-R; 8x DVD+RW; 6x DVD-RW and 5x DVD-RAM.

The drive will be available in October, however the company has not yet set a price.

We will keep you posted.
