It's been at least two days since the last iPad 3 rumour did the web-rounds and we were starting to get withdrawal symptoms. Luckily for us then, Chinese site WeiPhone has managed to nab an image of the next-gen iPad's innards showing off an Apple A5X chip in all of its glory.
That's right - an Apple A5X chip and not the A6 chip that has so often been mentioned by the rumour-mill. Earlier this month we got wind of a new Apple processor with the model number S5L8945X. The Apple A4 chip is called the S5L8930X and the A5 is the S5L8940X. So the increment of 5 on the model number, rather than 10 suggests the A5X moniker is more likely than the A6 one.
The leaked logic board picture also seems to show a pair of 16GB Hynix flash memory chips.
MacRumors has also done some microscopic digging on the supposed high-resolution "Retina" displays that have apparently been uncovered. It is claiming that the 9.7-inch leaked panels have a pixel density 4 times that of the iPad 2, suggesting a 2048x1536 resolution.
There's a lot of buzz about the iPad 3 flying around at the moment, not least thanks to the numerous case parts supposedly being leaked. March 7 seems to be the date that everybody has circled for an announcement - so we shouldn't have too long to wait.
