JCB Dieselmax car beats diesel speed record

JCB claims fastest diesel on the planet

Officials have confirmed that the British JCB Dieselmax team has broken the land speed record for diesel powered vehicles, averaging a speed of 328.767 miles per hour.

The news comes just days after the team announced that it had punched through the 300mph barrier last week.

Andy Green, overall world land-speed record holder for his efforts in the ThrustSSC 9 years ago, was driving today.

Green said: "It's British engineering at its absolute best".

The first run was made at an average speed of 324.248mph with the return run averaging 333.339mph, beating the previous record of 235mph which has stood for more than 30 years.

According to reports the JCB team hopes to take the record even higher with further runs later this week.
