Apple has updated its AirPort Utility app on Mac OS X Lion. The new version brings with it an interface more in keeping with the AirPort Utility it rolled out on iOS recently, and dispenses with the usual-looking desktop software you might expect. 

The new app, which also comes with new firmware updates for your connected Apple AirPort base stations, will let you manage your network hub or hubs around your house or office in an easier, more graphical way.

"Use AirPort Utility to set up and manage your Wi-Fi network and AirPort base stations, including AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and Time Capsule. See a graphical overview of your Wi-Fi network and devices. Change base station and network settings, or manage advanced features such as security modes, wireless channels, and more." Says Apple in the automatic download notes.

The AirPort Base Station and Time Capsule Firmware Update 7.6.1 promises to fix an issue with wireless performance and provides support for remote access to an AirPort disk or a Time Capsule hard drive with an iCloud account. The firmware update is for all 802.11n AirPort Express, 802.11n AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule models.

You can download the new AirPort Utility app via the Apple website or via the Software Update feature in Mac OS X Lion, and then the Firmware updates if you need it via the new software.
