Motorola Xoom Ice Cream Sandwich update available now

In the States for Wi-Fi models

Motorola Xoom Ice Cream Sandwich update available now

19 January 2012 14:22 GMT / By Paul Lamkin

Back in December Motorola stated that it was planning as many Ice Cream Sandwich updates as possible and the first fruits of that promise have been realised with the release of Android 4.0 for the original Motorola Xoom.

If you own a Wi-Fi-only version of the original Honeycomb tab and live Stateside then you can get on-board the Ice Cream Sandwich express now.

"We are pleased to announce the new software update for the Motorola Xoom (Wi-Fi)," read a company statement. "Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, delivers a refined user interface and introduces innovative features for tablet users. The software update includes numerous enhancements as well as providing additional features, and will roll out to Xoom."

3G owners will have to wait, as will any Xoomers not residing in the US. The last major Xoom update, from Android 3.1 to 3.2, was a long drawn out affair from the soon-to-be Google owned company. It landed in the UK in September, US users had the update land a month or so before.

Let's hope Moto is quicker with the goodies this time around.

If you're rocking a Wi-Fi Xoom in the States you can nab the update over a Wi-Fi connection once notified. If you are not hooked up to Wi-Fi, or your Motorola Xoom is switched off when the notification arrives, you will see it when you next connect to a Wi-Fi network.

It's rolling out now.
