Ahead of the 17th November launch for the PlayStation 3, Sony’s PlayStation 2 is dropping in price.

The company has officially instructed it distributors to sell the PS2 at £95, putting it below the magic £99 price for retailers.

The 8 million people who have already bought a PS2 are perhaps not as joyful as those saving up to buy one this Christmas.

Those 8 million have contributed to the price drop, as Sony’s statement says, that advances in “manufacturing efficiency and economies of scale mean cost savings an be passed on directly to new PlayStation 2 customers”.
