CES 2012: The A700's little Tegra 3 brother

It isn't just the Iconia A700 packing Tegra 3 action from Nvidia; the quad-core chip can also be found lurking inside the Acer Iconia Tab A510 that is on show in Vegas at CES as well.

Afforded much less fanfare than its A700 sibling, the A510 falls a little short on the display front in comparison, but still packs a 10.1-inch display with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. HD indeed, but not quite up to the Full HD 1080p of its flagship brethren.

Inside, the engine room is the same; the latest Tegra offering clocked at 1.3GHz and Android Ice Cream Sandwich up and running without any issues at all.

We haven't seen the A510 and the A700 side by side, but our guess is that the former is a little chunkier and is certainly much heavier than your average 10.1-inch tab.

Still, with a price tag that is likely to shave a few quid off of what the A700 hits at, this could well be a tempting tab for some. Sure, it's not Full HD but prior to CES 2012 that was hardly a concern when it came to high-end tabs. And it cut through the tasks we set it (a few apps and videos) and played games with a silk-like smoothness thanks to the Tegra 3 power.

No word on when it's likely to hit the shops nor indeed an indication on price, but one thing's for sure - the Acer Iconia Tab A200's launch is likely to be a bit of a damp squib now.
