CES 2012: And 3 classic directors

James Bond Blu-ray collection launched by genuine Bond girls

MGM and Twentieth Century Fox are releasing the entire collection of 22 James Bond movies in one box-set, titled Bond 50, which will be available from 1 October. And two of the beautiful Bond girls from the franchise's recent history were on hand to announce the news from the Panasonic booth at CES in Las Vegas.

Caterina Murino (Casino Royale) and Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) were also joined on stage by Bond movie directors John Glen (five films, including For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy), Michael Apted (The World is Not Enough) and Martin Campbell (GoldenEye and Casino Royale), who also took part in a panel discussion on some of their experiences during filming in the past.

Clips were shown from some of the movies, and we have to say that they look fantastic. We're not sure if the transfers are different from those released on the limited number of Bond Blu-rays currently available, but blown up onto an 80-inch Panasonic plasma showed no obvious artefacts or picture noise.

The new box-set release ties in with the 50th anniversary of James Bond, and will be available before the 23rd adventure, Skyfall, is released at the end of the year.

It is currently available to pre-order from Amazon.co.uk at the more-than-reasonable price point of £89.99.

"With all 22 feature films available on Blu-ray in one collection for the first time this is a great way for fans to catch up on 007’s epic journey before Skyfall hits theaters next Fall," said Michael Brown, senior vice president, MGM Home Entertainment.  "Now viewers can enjoy the intense action of the innovative franchise in the most immersive home experience possible."

It must be said that we cannot wait. It's about time that ALL of the Bond films are available on Blu-ray.
