Back in July Griffin's AppPowered range literally took off with the launch of the Helo TC infra-red controlled helicopter. Now, over in Las Vegas at CES, an update has flown in - a missile firing Helo TC that is now also compatible with Android.

The Helo TC Assault also adds a guiding light to the mix, along with the six missiles, and the Android compatibility means its not just fanboys able to make the most of the 'copter fun.

The chopper is designed for indoor use, but where it differs from the ubiquitous array of indoor RC helicopters that you've seen before is that it is controlled using your iPhone, iPad or your Android device

It uses an app and a flight deck module to turn your mobile or tablet into the control panel for the chopper, giving you two control methods: using multitouch to guide your vehicle with the virtual throttle and flight controlled joystick dubbed "the cyclic" or you can make use of your device's accelerometer for the "Tilt-to-Steer" setup.

It charges via USB and you should get around an 8-minute flight on a full charge. It comes packed with replaceable main and tail rotor systems for when you inevitably crash and burn. There's an auto land option for safer flights (and less breakages we imagine) and there is also the ability to record up to three flight plans for easy repetition.

It hits the US in the spring and the UK not long after that we're told. No word on a GBP price but it'll be around $60 Stateside.
