Ofcom to make it easier for people to switch broadband providers

Currently, switching can leave you without broadband internet for days

Communications industries regulator Ofcom is proposing a change to current regulations to make it easier for people to switch broadband providers.

After an investigation launched in April looking into the current processes in place, Ofcom decided that more stringent regulations should be brought in that would require a broadband provider to give a Migration Authorisation Code to a customer if it is requested, in order to make the transition to a new provider much easier.

Lack of an MAC can mean that a person is left without broadband service for quite sometime until the transition as gone through.

Ofcom also wants to work with the industry to develop ways for people to obtain MACs, even if their current broadband supplier refuses to give it to them.

Sky Broadband has already issued a response to the proposal, saying that it welcomed the suggested measure.
