700,000 is a big number. It is also just so happens to be the number of Android devices around the world that are activated every day according to Google showing you just how popular the OS has become.

"There are now over 700,000 Android devices activated every day," Andy Rubin, Senior Vice President of Mobile at Google confirmed this week via Twitter.

There is no denying that is a big number, it actually shows that Android activations are slowing rather than growing based on previous information from Google.

How do we know this? Well Rubin back in June tweeted that Google was activating 500,000 devices a day:

"There are now over 500,000 Android devices activated every day, and it's growing at 4.4% w/w"

That means Android has added 200,000 activations a day since June, but that it hasn't matched the growth that it had hoped for in the last 25 weeks.

Based on those numbers provided by Rubin, the Android activation tally has only grown around 1.4 per cent per day, considerably lower than the 4.4 per cent Google was gunning for.

Based on Google's original predictions it should currently be activating over 2.2m handsets a day by now. Instead, based on current growth it won't be hitting that activation goal at all in 2012.

If Google can keep up with the 1.4 per cent growth it is currently seeing we should see it reach the 1m device activations a day around late summer.

When do you think Google will reach 1m activations a day? Let us know in the comments below
