After much deliberation, voting and a year of mulling and musing over every piece of consumer electronics we see, Pocket-lint is proud to announce the winners of the 8th annual Pocket-lint Gadget Awards 2011.
If you’re reading this, thank you, you haven’t immediately skimmed down the page to find out the winners. Especially as we want to quickly explain how the voting process worked this year.
It is our belief that the way we find out the winners in our awards is the fairest in the industry. We take into account a number of different factors to make sure that when we tell you this each product the best in its category, it really is.
Firstly, Stuart, Chris, Ian and the team work out the nominations. These are based on the best products we have seen and reviewed, released between 1 December 2010 and the end of the nominations process. We allow as much time as possible, but some products just fall outside the timeframe and can't be included.
From that we take the top five - a hard task when it comes to something like phones or videogames - and present them to three groups:
The first is a judging panel of, what we like to call, the elite judges - members and staff of national papers, leading websites and television. They had 50 per cent of the vote.
The second includes journalists from the tech industry. Unfortunately, because some publishers aren’t too happy about their writers offering support to Pocket-lint, this is a “black ops” list. This year we’ve had just under 100 journalists vote. And they had 40 per cent of the vote.
The final 10 per cent goes to the public vote. And that 10 per cent can just tip the balance at times (and often has done in the past).
Everyone had one vote and one vote alone.
So, thousands of votes later, and a lengthy period of totting them up, may we present to you the 8th annual Pocket-lint Gadget Awards 2011 winners.
