EISA Awards single out Canon, Fujifilm and others for honours

Awards go to the creme de la creme

The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) has announced the winners of its annual awards that rate the best new consumer.

The Nokia 93 scooped the award for European Media Phone of the Year, with the judges describing it as a “perfect example of a multimedia computer that can fit in your hands”.

Meanwhile, European Zoom Camera went to the FinePix S5600 Zoom, which boasts a 10x optical zoom and 5MP of resolution.

The judges praised it for its “strong performance at an affordable price” and “excellent resolution”.

Canon was awarded twice, with its EOS 5D taking the prize for European Professional Camera, and the Pixma iP6600D winning European Photo Printer.

About the 5D the judges said, “The EOS 5D is the first full-frame sensor digital SLR available for an affordable price".

“It is an excellent camera for both professionals and semi professionals.”

The printer was also praised for its good value for money and printing accuracy.

Philips products also took two prizes: the Cineos 37PF9731D was named High-End LCD TV, while the 42PF7621D is the Green TV of the Year.

The Cineos won because of its “impressive picture quality”, and the heightened visual experience given by the Ambilight Surround illumination.

The Green TV award went to the set because it offers very low power consumption, easy end-life disassembly and use of recyclable components.

Five awards went to Sony: Streaming Concept to the LocationFree TV; High-End Video Projector to the VPL-VW100; LCD TV for the KDL-32V2000; HDV Camcorder for the HDR-HC3E HDV Camcorder; and Consumer Camera for the A100 DSLR.

Olympus grabbed Professional Lens of the year with its range of Zuiko Digital Top Pro lenses, as well as the award for Pocket Camera for the Mju 720 SW.

European Scanner of the year, meanwhile, went to Epson for its Perfection V700 Photo/V750 Pro professional scanner.

LG scooped Plasma TV with the LG 42PC1RR; HT Innovation with the flat wall mounted project; and Digital Video Recorder with the LG RH200MHS.

The prize for Compact Camera of the year, went to Samsung's good-looking NV10.

The EISA judging panel is made up of over 50 technology magazine editors from across Europe.
