The 2012 Formula One season may not start until March 2012, but that hasn’t stopped Sky detailing how it plans to cover the sport in the new year - in HD of course.  

“SKY SPORTS will launch a dedicated channel for its new in-depth Formula 1 coverage, taking viewers under the skin of the sport,” says the broadcaster no doubt getting fans excited as to what they can expect. “Starting in March 2012, Sky Sports F1 HD will get Sky customers closer than ever, with more action, analysis and information - on their TV, online and mobile devices - throughout the season.” 

Sky is promising to show every practice, qualifying and race live throughout the season that runs from March to November.

But rather than just stop there, it is also planning a “wealth of programmes with in-depth interviews, archive action and weekly magazine shows.”

The broadcaster hoping its offering of content that viewers will be able to interact with like on-board cameras, behind the scenes with the teams in the pits footage, and race data will convince them to be happy that it is no longer on the BBC.

Sky says the dedicated channel will be provided at no extra charge to all Sky TV customers who take both Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 or the HD pack of channels. 

It will be found at 408 in Sky’s on-screen guide, after a scheduled move of the Sky Sports channels. Sky Sports viewers without the Sky+ HD pack will receive a standard definition version.

The channel will also be available on Sky Go, through online, mobile or tablet devices, at no extra charge meaning you’ll be able to watch it in bed, the bath, or at your mates house.

Sky has confirmed to Pocket-lint that “there are no plans for F1 to be in 3D” at the moment.
