In The 40-Year-Old Virgin there's a scene where a customer to the eBay store wants to buy some shoes that he's seen on display.

"You're making it extremely difficult for me," he says, when he finds out that he's unable to just buy the shoes there and then, and instead has to look the item up on eBay. "I'm just trying to get these shoes back to my house so I can wear them."

Now those sorts of difficulties have made it into the real world with the opening of the eBay Christmas boutique, the UK’s first ever Quick Response (QR) code shopping emporium.

Opening on London's Dean Street from 1 December for 5 days, the shop will let customers search for stuff they want to buy, scan a QR code and then buy the item from eBay.

The Christmas Boutique will feature "a huge selection of top gifts from leading brands, each with its own unique QR code and up to 70 per cent off".

So it's essentially shopping somewhere where you can't actually buy anything. Why didn't they think of this before?

The eBay Christmas Boutique can be found at 34 Dean Street and will be open between 10am and 6pm, Thursday 1 to Monday 5 of December.
