BBC to develop digital radio tuner for MP3 players

Plug-in device would make every audio player DAB-friendly

11 August 2006 16:15 GMT / By Amber Maitland

The BBC is working on a design for a gadget that would turn any MP3 player into a digital radio.

The plug-in gadget may also be available for mobile phones and cars.

However, although the BBC has released this information, it remains sketchy about details.

As it’s still in the early stages of development, there’s no expected release date, no specifications, and no pricing information.

A BBC spokesman said that the broadcasting company wants to make sure digital radio is “relevant” to the current audio market.

He would not answer questions about who may be teaming up with the Beeb on this project.
