New Apple Store app turns you into a Genius

The new Apple Store app is all set to go live on Thursday, according to a report by BGR, giving fanboys and girls much more choice when it come to shopping at their Mecca.

You've probably read all about the trials that Apple is doing at its San Francisco store whereby shoppers can order Apple goodies online and then pick them up in-store. Well, this functionality is going to be added for all Apple Stores (in the US to begin with probably) within the app.

From the time you place an online order through the App, your iDevice or accessory will be ready to pick up within 12 minutes. Yep, 12.

If your item is out of stock at your local store, or it's a personalised order - you can still pick up in store, with delivery to any Apple Store free of charge. Once the item comes into store, the 12-minute rule applies again.

Our favourite aspect of the new service, if the report rings true, is that you'll also be able to use the app as a self-checkout machine. Simply pick up your item, scan the barcode using the app and pay with your credit or debit card. No need to deal with the ever-so-helpful Apple staff at all. You'll be your own Genius.

The Apple Store app is due to land in the App Store on 3 November. We'll let you know as soon as it does.
