Google has announced that it has released a beta version of its Picasa Web Albums Uploaders for Mac OS X.

The search engine announced the news on its Blog. The project was started by Ted Bonkenburg a Software Engineer in the company's Infrastructure department who started work on the service as part of his spare 20% that the company allows its employees to work on other projects.

Picasa Web Albums, which has been available to PC users for some time, is a web photo share application that allows people to upload photos to the web to share with others.

Google has even gone as far as create a plug-in for uploading pictures from within iPhoto.

Alternatively users will be able to drag photos into the provided standalone app and click Upload.

The software which is free can be downloaded from Google.
