The Adidas miCoach Speed Cell has just been announced as a standalone product; it is the brains behind the latest Adidas Adizero f50 football boot as tested by Pocket-lint back in September.

The Speed Cell allows you to measure your athletic performance (or lack of, as Pocket-lint found to our embarrassment) by recording your average speed, maximum speed, number of sprints, distance at high intensity levels, steps and stride during play.

It can store up to 7 hours of play and this information is transferred wirelessly to your PC or Mac using a supplied dongle. Your performance can then be analysed using the dedicated web-based software and also on the miCoach Soccer and miCoach Running apps that will go live on 1 December.

Already built into the new f50 boot as worn by some of football's greatest players including Lionel Messi, Samir Nasri and Paul Lamkin, the Speed Cell will be compatible with "a full range of miCoach Speed Cell compatible footwear for basketball, football and tennis later this year and throughout 2012".

"miCoach has cemented Adidas' position as an innovator in the use of data in sport to make athletes faster and the introduction of miCoach Speed Cell further demonstrates our passion to help athlete's continually enhance their performance."
