Nokia has detailed its GPS offering for its Windows Phone 7 smartphones.

Called Nokia Drive, the app will offer free turn-by-turn navigation for Windows Phone 7 users on the go. Carrying on the steady trend of dedicated GPS units being replaced by mobile devices and dedicated apps; getting this particular app offering right could make a big difference in the success of the Nokia Windows Phone 7 platform.

It will come with voice guidance, the ability to download and install maps on the go, and the ability to add extra mapping data via 3G if you stray too far from your route.

To help you find that route, Nokia has included 69 million places within the service, suggesting you’ll never be lacking for places to visit.

There is also a landscape view for when using the app in the car, and the option of switching between 2D and 3D views.
