The launch of the Viewsonic ViewPad 7e has been given an official October launch date, bringing a nice budget option for anyone tempted by a tablet.

Pocket-lint has already done a full hands-on with the Viewpad 7e, and we have to say in our brief time with the device it did everything that was asked of it - so now we'll be able to find out just what it's made of when it launches in the next week or so.

Splash out the $200 asking price, we were told it would hit the shelves for as little as £149, and you'll be rewarded with a 1GHz processor, 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot and 3-megapixel rear camera, with a VGA-effort round the front.

To produce an even better package the kind folks at Viesonic will alos be including some key apps in with the device: Angry Birds, the Kindle app will be present and you'll also get ViewScene 3D user interface that offers up a neat skin based on SPB Shell 3D.

Despite the Viewsonic ViewPad 7e's resistive touch screen we found it responded pretty well, and it should give people a decent alternative, with perhaps a little more flexibility, to the new Kindle.
