Apple TV sets: Jobs' final plan?

Flatscreen TV said to be "cracked"

There's a lot of juicy information dropping from Walter Isaacson’s authorised Steve Jobs biography, such as his criticisms of Bill Gates and the fact that he warned US President Barack Obama that he'd be a one-termer, but in terms of gadgetry and tech the juiciest of all titbits concerns Apple TV.

No, not the hobby box streamer currently in its second generation, but a genuine Apple TV set as has been much rumoured in the past.

"He very much wanted to do for television sets what he had done for computers, music players, and phones: make them simple and elegant," Isaacson wrote.

Isaacson continued: "‘I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,’ he told me. ‘It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.’ No longer would users have to fiddle with complex remotes for DVD players and cable channels. ‘It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.’"

If it really has been "cracked" then this could mean a real Apple living-room onslaught. Whilst the current Apple TV set top box appeals to tech fans and fanboy purists, a genuine Cupertino produced TV set could potentially have the same impact on the TV market that Apple has enjoyed in the mobile telecommunications one - another industry it was late to the party.
