YouTube now allows you to sell merchandise and music

17 October 2011 13:08 GMT / By Hunter Skipworth

YouTube has launched the Merch Store, a means for music fans to download tracks and purchase merchandise straight through the video streaming site.

This is a big deal for music labels and artists alike, YouTube being a huge promotional platform. The website sees around 800 million people visit each month, many of whom use it to listen to music.

YouTube partners can take advantage of the Merch Store to do all sorts of music-related stuff, including things like selling concert tickets or even specific experiences for fans. In order to get things rolling, YouTube has partnered up with iTunes and Amazon for track downloads. Topspin is going to be in charge of merchandise sales and SongKick will be flogging tickets.

The Merch Store is said to be getting rolled out to partners over the coming weeks. It means a major new way for artists to engage with fans as well as a way for YouTube to expand on its growing music video base.
